Fall Home Tour

Fall Home Tour

Ok so it's not really so much a home tour as it is a look what I threw together last minute kind of tour. You see, since we are still trying to buy furniture and decorate the walls, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money replacing our holiday décor this year. Plus, I wanted to save my money so I could spend a little more on Christmas décor since TnT are very much into Christmas this year.

With that said, we are hosting Thanksgiving this year so I figured I should decorate a little bit for the occasion. So here we go…..

Guests will be greeted by a little woodland scene (?) when they walk in the door with a little scarecrow and a cute little fox.

In the formal dining room I created a little centerpiece from candle rings and these cute little burlap pumpkins. I keep forgetting to get candles for those candlesticks. ::sigh::

In the family room I added some pumpkins and acorns to a little tray I have on our dresser behind the couch.

The mantle is decorated with my hello Fall print, pumpkins, and a 'Thankful' banner that I designed on a whim one night.

So that's my fall décor for this year. I'm sure I'll be adding to it in the years to come. I love decorating for holidays!

Weekly Meal Plan

Let's be real for a minute, since we are hosting Thanksgiving, I will be busy cooking for the big day so our meals this week are basically fend for yourself type meals. After tomorrow, it's a free for all.

Holiday Looks for Toddlers

Being a mom of girls, I love to buy them clothes and dress them up. However, being a mom of twin girls means buying everything 2 at a time. No hand me downs available in this house.

One of my favorite places to shop for affordable and cute clothes for my girls is Target. I would love to have these outfits for them for this holiday season.

This first look could carry through all winter. It would make an adorable outfit for a New Year's gathering or event.

I LOVE the dress in this next look. And what girl wouldn't love the magenta sweater and the black patent boots with those cute little bows?

Your little princess(es) would be sure to turn heads with this next little ensemble. That tutu dress and the coat with the fur collar? ADORABLE!

Thanksgiving Menu

Growing up we had a big Thanksgiving meal every year. It was always at my Great Aunt's house and her huge dining room table was always so full of food that we often had to eat in the living room or out on her enclosed patio.

I miss those Thanksgiving dinners.

There's not as many in our family as there was back then so our meals aren't as big. That's ok though because we can start new traditions.

This year we are hosting Thanksgiving so I prepared a menu ahead of time so I could start buying ingredients ahead of time rather than rushing around last minute.

This is our menu for this year.

Thanksgiving 2014 Menu

I planned appetizers to keep the men out of the kitchen. It seems they always gather in the kitchen to snack and pick at the foods we're making rather than actually helping. These will be served in the dining room, AWAY from the kitchen. lol

Roasted brussel sprouts is kind of a new thing on our typical Thanksgiving menu. However, this picky eater who has trouble eating veggies is all about roasted brussel sprouts. You know, the kind with bacon and onion. YUM! I can't wait until Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin and Pecan pie is always a staple for Thanksgiving meals. While I love me a good piece of pumpkin pie with a huge dollop of whip cream on top, chocolate merengue pie is speaking my love language.

So that's our menu for this year. I'm sure there may be some other dishes that will show up, and that's perfectly ok with me! What does your menu look like and what are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes?

This Week's Meal Plan

It's snowing here today. A little more than I expected but I'm enjoying watching it come down.

Looking at my meal plan for this week, it's almost as if I knew we would have a cold start to our week.

I also just noticed a lot of potatoes in our menu this week. Hmmm….may have to rearrange some meals. Nahhhhhh! :)

Weekly Meal Plan

I'm getting better at planning easier meals through the week. We usually have one or two more involved meals….at least one being on the weekend.

We are going to get a big dip in our temps this week. Like tomorrow night. We will go from a high of 74 tomorrow afternoon down to 42 degrees by bed time. Not the biggest dip in temps we've ever had but still quite a difference! Oh, and they're "predicting" snow on Saturday! Don't think I'm ready for that just yet.

Anywho, the promise of cold weather has me thinking about soups and stews and comfort food so you'll probably start seeing that type of stuff on my weekly menus.

Top 5 Most Used Cleaning Products

Now that we have a bigger house and a busier schedule, I struggle with finding time to clean. We're lucky if it's even all picked up at the same time. So when we moved back home, instead of buying tons of cleaning products, I decided to keep life simple and try to go a little more "green" with what I used to clean.

Top 5 Favorite Cleaning Products

Dish Wand – This has been a life saver. I do use one for dishes but my most favorite use for it is to clean the tubs and showers. Simply fill one with a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and dawn and put it in the shower. When you're in the shower, take a minute or two to scrub down the walls and floor. No more harsh chemicals in my shower! I also use Method Daily Shower after every shower. Don't forget to spray the shower head and handles!

Bona Hardwood Floor Mop – We now have a lot of wood floors and they're dark so I'm constantly cleaning them. The flooring guys told me the only product I should be using on our wood floors are the Bona products. Thank goodness Bona has a simple, easy to use Floor Care System because I use it daily!

Steam Mop – If you want to torture me, give me a bucket and a mop and tell me to get to work. Seriously. I think I'd rather clean toilets than mop. However, since I bought my Shark 2 in 1 Electric Steam Pocket Mop, I don't hate it as much.

Method Granite Cleaner – This is my favorite product for granite.  I love how it makes my black pearl granite shine and it smellls soooo good! For my kitchen counters, I typically wipe down my counters first with a dish rag and then go back over them with the Method Granite Cleaner.

Wipes – I keep a stock of Clorox wipes for cleaning the outside of the toilets, wiping down toys and spot cleaning the tile floors.

So those are my most used cleaning products. They have all made cleaning a little less painful for me. Not to mention having so few cleaning products saves me money!

Wednesday Randoms

I haven't done a randoms post in quite a while so here you go! :)

  • It's finally getting cooler around here which means I've started baking and cooking like it's my job! Oh wait, it kinda is. In addition to baking some yummy iced oatmeal cookies, I whipped up a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough and put it in the fridge for when we need a cookie fix. It was the best and worst idea I've had yet.

  • I took the girls to a park by my mom's house on Monday. It was destroyed by the tornado and  they've recently re-built it bigger and better. Lots of things to climb. Little Miss Tensley was in climber's heaven. Unfortunately (for me) an hour of climbing was not enough for her.

  • Miss Tillie was cracking me up the other night. She's so full of personality and the faces/expressions she makes when she's talking are hysterical.

  • Now that we have a fireplace, I love turning it on (it's a vent-less gas fireplace) and working by the fire after everyone has gone to bed.

  • Since we are hosting Thanksgiving, I've started doing a little fall decorating. The Halloween banner still needs to come down. I hope to replace it soon! I'll do a post on my décor if I get it finished. I've also started buying Christmas décor here and there when I see it on sale. It's going to take me years to replace all that we lost!

Potty Training Update

I just thought I'd post a little update on potty training.

Potty Training Update

Not a lot has happened since this post. The girls are pretty much the same in that if we make them go, they will go. They very rarely tell us when they need to go and so we are basically going through pull-ups like they grow on trees. I wish the money to pay for them grew on trees.

We've tried pretty much everything.

I did the timer thing and no matter how much time I set in between potty breaks, they still had accidents either right before or right after the potty break.

I tried putting them in panties. There were WAY to many #2 accidents for me to continue this method. Several pairs had to be thrown away and panties cost entirely too much (seriously, it's ridiculous) for me to be continuously throwing them away.

One day, I even tried with them running around with nothing at all. You should have seen the melt downs when I told them no diapers or panties. It was like the worst form of toddler torcher. I eventually gave in and put them in pull-ups.

Our pediatrician even gave them a talking to about going on the potty. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one they refuse to listen to….

They rarely care if they are wet or dirty. They are just too busy to care I guess.

Every time we have to change their pull-up, we "lecture" them about going on the potty. You'd think they'd eventually get tired of hearing us but man, these girls are stubborn!

Oh and a reward system? Yeah, total fail. The reward system doesn't work for anything really. They don't even care when we take toys away.

I'm seriously at a loss and am convinced they will be wearing pull-ups (or Depends) to college.

So basically, we're still on potty training mode and about 1/3 of my grocery budget goes toward buying pull-ups and/or diapers. I keep praying that someday soon something will just click with them because seriously, I'm done trying.

Did you have trouble potty training? Was there something that you did that finally clicked for them? Please share in the comments because I'm desperate!

Mexican Chicken Lasagna

Looking for freezer meal recipes? This one would be perfect as a freezer meal!

Mexican Chicken Lasagna

I was a little hesitant the first time I made it but it was delicious so I added it to my master meal list.

Then the second time I made it, something just wasn't right. Let's just say cinnamon is NOT the same as cumin. I have not made that mistake again.

With my wonderful discovery of ground chicken sold at the meat counter at my local grocery store, I started using that instead of shredded chicken. SO much easier than shredding chicken.

Anyway, make it, freeze it or eat it right away. Whatever you do, you won't regret it.
