Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from Pink Puppy Dog and Kitty Cat!

photo 1 (82)

Since we don't live in a neighborhood we typically don't trick or treat. Instead, we go to our church's fall festival where we get plenty of treats there. Our festival was last week so we don't have plans tonight but I'm totally ok with that since a cold front came through last night. Instead, we will have Chili Frito Pies for dinner and watch Halloween cartoons. :)

Always Under Pay Review

Now that the girls are older and willing to keep things in their hair we have been starting to collect headbands. So when I was approached by Always Under Pay to review some of their products, I jumped on the chance to add to our headband collection.

I personally like the headbands with the thin elastic and flowers and wanted to try the turban type headbands so I chose those two styles. I was thrilled with the headbands they sent! The girls immediately grabbed them and started trying them on.

photo (69)

The elastic headbands are my favorite. They fit well and stay on pretty good as long as the girls don't mess with them.

photo 1 (82)

The turbans are just as cute! They are made of a silky fabric so they didn't stay on TnT very well since they both have super fine hair but we are going to keep trying (maybe with their hair up) because I really like them!

photo 3 (55)

Always Under Pay also has so many other things for your girly girls (and even some for the boys). They have craft supplies to make your own or you can buy already made stuff. The best part? It's super inexpensive!

I know it's too late for Halloween but if you check out their blog right now you can get some super cute costume ideas. I'm thinking some of these would be fun to put together for TnT's dress up area in their playroom!

And if you like to plan ahead, check out their Christmas section and get a jumpstart on that Christmas wardrobe!

Disclaimer: I received one or more of the products mentioned above in the hope that I would mention them on my blog. However, I only recommend products I use personally and believe would be a good fit for my readers.

Confessions of a Twin Mom

Confessions of a Twin Mom

Being a mom of twins is not always easy. In fact, challenges come up almost daily. I believe it also requires a lot of flexibility. Parenting two totally different personalities going through the same developmental stages at the same time is harder than you might think. I always laugh (under my breath, of course) when people tell me how they always wanted twins. Don't get me wrong, it is such a special thing and I am so thankful and blessed to have my girls but man, sometimes it's just hard.

Here are some things I do occasionally just to make day(s) go smoother and for me to keep my sanity.

Confession #1:

I use the TV to break the tension. Yes, I know some will judge me for this but sometimes when the girls are out of control, fighting and getting into EVERYTHING the only thing that will get them to calm down is turning on the TV. I can turn on an educational cartoon (Daniel Tiger is our current favorite) and all is peaceful in our house.

Confession #2:

I sometimes avoid making eye contact with people in public just to avoid the "twin" questions. I actually usually don't mind stopping and answering the same old questions but sometimes we just have too much to do and simply don't have the time to stop and chit chat. I have found that if I just avoid eye contact, I don't get stopped {as much}.

Confession #3:

At almost 3.5 years old, we are still not potty trained. To be honest, I have never really pushed the issue. The thought of potty training TWO at the same time was/is just overwhelming to me. Not to mention I HATE cleaning up messes. With that said, they will go on the potty sometimes if we force them too and sometimes on their own but they will not go consistently. I feel like I have tried everything so I'm just letting it go and if they are still wearing diapers when they go to college, I'll just tell them, "I told you so" when they come crying to me because their peers make fun of them.

Confession #4:

I have done everything in my power to make them self sufficient. I don't get to sit down and just relax as it is so if I did everything for them, I'd probably never get any sleep! If there's ever anything they want/need, I have taught them (as long as they are capable) to do things for themselves. With the exception of potty training, they can pretty much dress themselves, pick up after themselves, clean off the table, empty the dishwasher, sweep, vacuum and a few other things. Sometimes they whine about it but I never give in. If they want something, they have to do/get it for themselves. I don't feel like I'm robbing them of their childhood for this. They have plenty of time to play and just be kids.

Confession #5:

We don't have a strict schedule and we never really have. We have definitely had a routine, but the only schedule we ever implemented was for the first couple of months we kept them on the feeding schedule that the NICU started. I never wanted my children to dictate the things we do or wanted to do. When we go, they go. Because of this, I strongly believe it is why they mostly behave in public and I don't feel that I've harmed them in anyway by not following a schedule.

So there you have it, my dirty little twin mom secrets. What parenting tricks do you use to make your life easier? Share below in the comments and let's discuss!

This Week's Meal Plan

Planning leftover nights is a great way to keep food from going bad in your fridge, keeping your fridge cleaned out and saving money.

If you plan a meal that you know will have leftovers, plan a leftover night. Another option is to make a double batch and freeze it for later.

The Bouqs Co. | Product Review

Have you seen The Bouqs Co. from Shark Tank? It's a flower delivery company that sells and ships beautiful flowers from "The Farm" (eco-friendly and sustainable farms).

When I was asked if I would be willing to do a review I thought, "Beautiful flowers sent straight to my door? Heck yeah!

The Bouqs Co. has three price points that start at $40…Original, Deluxe or Grand. For $40 you can get a dozen or so flowers (it varies with the flowers) if you order the Original. You can even double or triple your order for not much more!

Even better, The Bouqs Co. has concierge services that will allow you to send flowers at scheduled times, certain special events or just because. They will even remind you via email. How cool is that?!

The ordering process was simple. Since we are now into the Fall season (sort of…we just cooled off into the 70's here) I decided to order the "Dawn" bouquet. I was just drawn to the orange pink color of these roses! Within 5 minutes I had placed my order and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my flowers. Because I ordered flowers from the Volcano Collection it took approximately one week to get my flowers (if you want/need  them sooner, order from the California collection).

I was home the day the flowers were delivered so you better believe I was waiting at the door to snatch the box out of the Fedex delivery guy's hands!

The packaging was pretty but I didn't hesitate to open that box to see my flowers!

Just Wait til You have Kids | The Bouqs Company Product Review

I was impressed with the way they packaged up the flowers. They were well protected from possible damage during shipping.

Now I'm no floral arranger but I did the best I could. The flowers were full and the color was magnificent! They look good in my turquoise pitcher.

Aren't they pretty? I think they would have looked even better if I had followed the instructions and removed the guard petals but I was too excited and totally overlooked that part!

I will say that after a couple of days, I had to remove one of the flowers as it was turning green and mushy but the rest of the flowers were still doing good.

If you order now, select Bouqs come with a surprise $5, $10, or $15 store credit!

Shop Talk

2013 Logo copy

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Etsy shop is still up and running! I've been sketching and brainstorming  new products.

I'm thinking about offering Christmas Gift Tags  including the "From Santa" Gift tags again. Would anyone be interested?

Here's last year's tags…

Chevron Santa Tag

I have a fun new design in mind for this year.

Also in the works are Christmas cards and some new and new/old prints.

I've also been thinking about offering print options for some of my items. What do you think? Would you be more likely to buy something you print yourself or would you rather buy a physical item shipped to you?

Quick and Easy Chicken & Rice

Quick & Easy Chicken and Rice

My momma used to make this easy dish. I tend to make it more in the Fall and Winter months.

It's a good comfort food.

I can't even begin to tell you how easy and fast it is to throw together. You'll just have to try it for yourself.

This Week's Meal Plan

Meal planning and grocery budgets are great ways to help you save money but sometimes even the best laid plans don't go according to plan.

Sometimes unexpected things happen like family members ending up in the hospital so you end up eating out instead of at home.

The good thing is that those meals you planned and bought groceries for can carry over to the next week so you don't have to buy as many groceries on your next trip to the store.

Budget Friendly Fall Decor

I have absolutely no holiday décor since we lost it ALL last year in the tornado.

This means I have to start over and since our budget doesn't allow for a Fall decorating shopping spree, I'm going to have to get a little thrifty.

I love things that sparkle so maybe I'll make this Glitter Leaves Garland.

Glitter Leaves Garland

I could print hello Fall print , stick it in a frame and put it on my mantle (It's showing up on my screen having a grayish background but it's really a white background).

Hello Fall Print

I could make this Fall banner again for my front door.

A couple of these wreaths would look good on the new mirrors in my dining room.

Yep, I'm going to have to get busy if I'm going to do all of this DIY décor. It will be time to decorate for Christmas before we know it!

Halloween Banner Freebie & Tutorial

Halloween Banner Freebie & Tutorial
Yay! It's finally October! Last night we had a cold front come through and it was the first time it felt like fall.
I have some fall stuff planned for the blog and the shop but first, let's talk about Halloween, shall we?
How about a freebie? You can get the black and white Halloween banner HERE.
Now let's doll it up a bit.
Here's what you need:
Halloween Banner Tutorial
Step 1:  Cut, Glue and Cut
Using a paper trimmer and/or scissors, cut out the banner pieces and glue them to cardstock (as pictured) leaving enough room on the edges to create a mat for each piece.
Halloween Banner 3

Then, using a paper trimmer or scissors, cut the cardstock into three pieces. Start with the single banner piece first allowing about 1/4 of an inch for the matting. Then cut the side by side banner pieces.
Halloween Banner 4
Your pieces should look like this. Make sure to leave enough excess at the bottom of each piece to allow for the points. Using your scissors, trim the bottom of each flag again leaving about 1/4 of an inch for the matting.
Halloween Banner 5
Step 2:  Punch Holes
Now that all your banner pieces are matted and cut, punch holes in the upper corners of the banner pieces. Don't worry about them being perfectly lined up, just eyeball it…that's the beauty of DIY. :)
Halloween Banner 6
Step 3:  String and embellish
Using your twine, string the banner pieces together leaving enough excess to separate the words and to hang.
Halloween banner 7
Then add your ribbon. I just added ribbon and tulle at the beginning and end of each word.

Step 4:  Hang Banner
I normally use command hooks and a slip knot to hang my banners but I didn't have any command hooks so I just taped it up.

The Trick or Treat Print is available in my shop. An orange and black polka dot version is also available.
Send me pictures of your banner if you make one yourself!
