Back to Meal Planning

After a summer of being lazy and not really meal planning I decided it was time to get back to it.

I started with using what I already and I have a lot of beef so this week is going to be a heavy beef week.

Aug 31-Sept 6 Meal Plan

I'm trying out this Slow Cooker Italian Chicken recipe for the first time. I have plans to post the other recipes soon!

Love and Coffee

We are starting a new schedule this week. It's not technically back to school for us like everyone else but we have some things that have been added starting this week.

I'm looking forward to a new routine but I can already tell I'm going to be living by these words over the next few weeks/months.

We are officially potty training!

We had been talking to the girls for months about going on the potty. I bought them a Minnie Mouse potty that annoyingly shouted "Hip, Hip Hooray" when you pushed on the little lever. We had the girls sit on it a few times but they didn't really get it. Tensley was a little interested but not enough to really try. Tillie would sit on it but had absolutely no interest.

That was all when we were in the apartment.

Now let's fast forward to after we moved into our house…

We still had the Minnie Mouse potty. Their only interest in it continued to be pushing the lever (to annoy me, I'm sure) and using it as a step stool.

We played the Elmo potty video for them on repeat, we read potty books, we talked and talked and talked……and talked about going on the potty. When they complained about having a "wet, wet" diaper or, you know, the other kind of diaper, we would tell them if they went on the potty they wouldn't have to deal with the discomfort.

It went in one ear and out the other (and still does).

A couple of months ago, Tens demanded to go on the big potty when I walked into the bathroom. And she went! Since then she has gone on and off but the biggest struggle is getting her to tell us when she needs to go.

Tillie still had absolutely no interest, especially in sitting on the big potty. In fact, if I tried to coax her into the bathroom she would literally grab the door jam to keep from going in there.

I finally decided to buy a seat that goes on a regular toilet. The Minnie Mouse potty had a removeable seat but it is too small for any toilet . I ended up buying this one and the girls LOVE it! The Minnie Mouse potty is now being used as a step stool/foot rest. ;)

Anyway, once  I bought the seat for the big potty, Tillie decided she would try. It took her a while but one night before bed she exclaimed that she needed to go potty. We thought it was a tactic to delay bed time but when we took her she actually went! For the first time she went on the potty! She was so excited she ran up and down the hall singing, "I'm gonna pee pee on da potty ah da time!" That's not happening but she, like her sister, will go off and on but won't tell us when she needs to go.

So, here we are, a million diapers and a couple hundred pull-ups later and I'm done. I'm SO done. And the girls are ready. They really are. I think they just need a little push.

Today, we are starting potty training boot camp. I am putting them in big girl panties, covering all of our nice new furniture with waterproof mattress covers, using the ol' timer and get these girls potty trained!

To hopefully aid in this process, I designed each of them their very own princess potty charts.

Potty Charts WM

These are available in my shop, if you'd like one for yourself. It looks like I'll be adding charts for boys soon!

I'll keep you posted on how this goes!

Pacis and Potty Training

12 12 11_2048

I want to preface this by saying that I have been blessed with how well the girls have handled transitions. Bottle to sippy cup, crib to toddler bed, toddler bed to big girl bed, etc have all been pretty easy for us. I am a strong believer in waiting until your child is ready. You, as a parent, know you're child better than anyone so don't listen to everyone else when they tell you it's time to make a transition.

Now let's talk about the end of the pacis in our house.

I never wanted the girls to have pacifiers but when they went to the NICU, my wants went out the window. I understand why they gave them to the girls. I still didn't like them having them but I understood. They needed something to help soothe them since I was unable to be with them (due to recovery and 2 blood transfusions) or nurse them. After a week in the NICU, we all became dependent on them. Especially once we were all home.

We wanted to start weaning them off the pacis last year but then we lost our home to a tornado so it got put on the back burner. I just couldn't take away their source of comfort after being displaced due to such a horrific event.

Even though we were dependent on them, I've always hated them. Every night, we would have to turn the house (or apartment) upside down looking for pacis. It was frustrating.

In the past few months they had started chewing holes in them. We would throw them away as we discovered the cuts/holes and told them that once they were gone, that was it.

Three weeks ago, we were down to the last two pacis and one was MIA. After the frustration of looking for it, JMac decided we were DONE with pacis so the next night when they asked for them we told them they were all broken. They fussed a bit but went to sleep pretty easily. The next night they asked again for their pacis and we, again, told them they were broken and had to be thrown away. I think there was an "oh man!" but that was it.

So we are done with pacis! (We've had a little trouble with bed time since then, but neither one has asked for a paci).

On potty training……..

We have been talking about potty training for months and they seemed somewhat interested but not enough to do anything about it.

We bought a potty and the Elmo Potty dvd. They were interested in "flushing" the potty (it say's, "Hip, Hip Hooray!") but not really sitting on it.

Tensley got pretty interested and will go on the potty if I take her but she won't tell me when she needs to go.

Tillie would grab the door jam when I tried to take her so I gave up. In the past week, however, she finally went on the potty and was so excited. After that first time she ran up and down the hall singing, "I'm gonna go on the potty all the time!" That hasn't been the case. She also will go if I ask her but she won't tell me when she needs to go.

Since I've been kid sitting my niece and nephew this summer, I decided to wait until they were back at school to do Potty Training Boot Camp with the girls. I was kinda hoping that they would have potty trained themselves before then but it's not looking too promising. We'll see.

Stay tuned……

What's up Wednesday

Today we had our third speech evaluation for one of the girls. We've been trying for a year to get some answers and then were told there was a 6 month wait to get in to a Speech Pathologist. SIX MONTHS! Anyway, I am so thankful we were able to get an appointment MUCH sooner than 6 months (more like 2 weeks). The appointment confirmed all of the concerns I've had over the past year (a momma's instinct is never wrong) and we will be starting speech therapy two times a week hopefully in the next few weeks.

I ordered a Plum Paper Designs planner this year instead of an Erin Condren planner. I'm liking it so far. I love that I had choices of how I wanted my weekly pages to look.

Then May Designs put their planners on sale so I decided to order one to use separately for my shop and blog. I went with the 40 week non-dated planner. Now if I could just get Mary Poppins to drop in to entertain the girls, I could actually accomplish the things I plan to put in this little planner.

I spotted this little mirror over on Joss & Main and want it BAD but I have no idea where I'd put it! It has all the colors I've been using in the house.

……..and now I see it's sold out. :(

We gave up cable this week. Yesterday, actually. I may have immediately gone into major withdrawals. Especially HGTV withdrawals. About a month ago we signed up for Netflix and Hulu Plus (NOT at all impressed with Hulu) and then recently signed up for Amazon Prime Prime is totally dangerous….and I'm not talking about the streaming part. No, I'm talking about the shopping and free shipping part. It's so easy to hop on and order something! A click of a button and your order is on it's way! Oh my! Someone should have warned me!
