31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 31-My Little Pumpkins

31 Days Button

Wow!  I can’t believe I’ve blogged for 31 days straight! What will I blog about now?! :)

I woke up early this morning. Before the girls even. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to wake up early. I hope that means my new thyroid meds are kicking in. I managed to get caught up on the computer work that I got behind on from our busy weekend and dealing with the sickies.

Tensley woke up first, as always. I let Tillie sleep just in case she still wasn’t feeling well. When she woke up I went to get her and I knew by the faces she was making that she was feeling better. Ornery little booger.

She was hoarse so she wasn’t talking much today. Her and Tensley played all day and I heard her giggle a few times. It wasn’t until this evening that she started trying to talk.

We weren’t sure if we were going to take the girls out for Halloween but since Tillie was feeling and acting like she was feeling pretty good we decided to go ahead and take them to our church for their fall festival. They had a blast!

When we got home I attempted to get some pictures of them together since we were in a rush before. It didn’t go that great…I didn’t even have time to adjust my settings and, gasp! I had to use my flash! It’s just too hard to get good pictures of these two little busy girls. Always busy. Always.

My mom made the little pumpkin heads some bows to complete their outfits.

Their rompers are from Pumpkin Butter Kids.

Thank you for coming along with me on this 31 day journey! I’ve enjoyed it and am glad that I have documented our days so the girls will have something to look back on.

I hope you continue to come back as I have some fun things planned for future posts!

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 30-Stuck

31 Days Button

Today, I was stuck under a poor little sick toddler. She only wanted me. Of course, it was jut me during the day but my mom came over in the afternoon to try to cuddle her so I could do a couple of things around the house but Miss Tillie wasn’t having it. Only momma would do.

I did manage to get a few things done in the morning when she was still asleep. Tensley was up but she mainly just followed me around or got in a trance watching Mickey Mouse.

Tillie’s fever was at the highest right after she woke up but after a dose of Tylenol it broke and she didn’t really have fever the rest of the day. She just felt crummy & slept most of the day.

I continued giving her Tylenol because she would wake up and just cry so I figured her throat was hurting and/or she was achy. When it would kick in, she would get a little playful.

Let’s see if I still have a fever, momma. Is this how you do it?’

‘Oh, it goes like this? Ok.’

‘Maybe we should use these anti-bacterial wipes to make me better.’

Like I said, she slept on me most of the day so I barely ate, drank or was able to go to the bathroom. I’d grab a couple of crackers when I’d get up to get her some medicine but that was about it. It wasn’t until my mom came over that I ate something substantial.

I also just want to say that having one sick twin and one that is well can be very difficult when you’re alone. When Tensley was sick it wasn’t that hard because she still wanted to play and didn’t need or want to be held much and she wanted to be in her bed to sleep. Tillie, on the other hand, wanted to be held and didn’t want anyone else to touch her.. I’m sure part of that is just her personality but I also wonder if maybe she was a little more sick than Tensley was. Also, Tensley wanted to play and just didn’t understand why Tillie didn’t want to. And trying to keep Tensley out of trouble while I was holding Tillie was quite a challenge.

I’m a little sad that we’ll probably miss another holiday due to illness. If you’ve been reading this little blog for a while, you might remember that they had RSV at Easter.

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 29-Pumpkin Patch

31 Days Button

The last 2 days are somewhat of a blur so this post may be choppy and I try to recall the events.

On Monday we had a consultation appointment with my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) to discuss our first FET (frozen embryo transfer). The girls went with us. I just LOVE my RE and all the nurses & staff. They all ooo’d and ahhh’d over the girls and we all got big hugs from them. I can’t even tell you how awesome it is to have a doctor have a genuine interest in me and my family. I mean, we’re all friends on Facebook! How many doctors & staff can you say that about? They just feel like family. They gave me my girls so how could they not?

Ok, I could go on & on about that but I’ll move on.

After our appointment, we had our traditional post RE appointment meal at Chick-fil-A. We started this tradition during our IVF cycle and continued it through my pregnancy with the girls. That must be why they love Chick-fil-A so much. ;)

Our next stop was to get the girls new strollers. We had gone back and forth about getting a double umbrella or just single umbrella strollers. Once we got to the store, and looked at our options, we decided to go with a single umbrella and bought clips to hook them together when needed. We also decided to get single strollers because we have been talking about taking the girls out one at a time for errands & such. Neither one of us really get to spend one on one time with the girls so this will allow us to do so when a stroller is needed.

The last stop was the pumpkin patch. We decided to stop at home to change the girls diapers and assemble the strollers so we could take them with us. On our way home, the girls fell asleep so once we got to the house we let them continue their nap in the car while we assembled the strollers.

Naps were had, strollers assembled and diapers were changed so we headed off to the pumpkin patch. At first, the girls were excited. After only a few minutes, Tillie became fussy (she had been fussy on and off all day)and Tensley started to look like she needed another nap. I did, however, manage to get some (not so great by my standards) pictures. There’s always next year, right?

And then there was the attempt at a picture of me with my girls.

We took a hayride to the actual pumpkin patch. It wasn’t quite what I expected but the girls seemed to like playing with the little pumpkins.

We had a full busy day. The girls had fun but were worn out and glad to be home. They ran around the living room for a while before we got them ready for bed and then after their baths, Tillie felt a little hot so I checked her temperature. She was running a low grade fever. She had no other symptoms so I assumed it was maybe due to teeth coming in.

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 28–Under the Weather

31 Days Button

I woke up today feeling a little tired. When I went to get dressed I ended up putting my workout clothes on and getting on the treadmill. I thought it might help boost my energy like it usually does.

It didn’t help. In fact, when I got out of the shower I felt worse and was having some discomfort in my lower abdomen. I pretty much did a whole lot of nothing after that. So thankful for a husband who isn’t afraid to step in and help out with the girls.

The girls’ Papa (James’s dad) and cousin came over to visit the girls. It was a short visit but a good one.

Even after that I didn’t do much. I just wasn’t feeling well at all. I managed to make some taco soup for dinner. It’s a good go to meal for times like this because it’s basically dump everything in one pot kind of meal.

Once we got the girls ready for bed, I went to bed shortly after that. I’m pretty sure I was asleep before 10pm.

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 27-Saturday Errands

31 Days Button

Today started with breakfast in bed. James brought me a pancake and got the girls up while I hung out in bed. That was the best part of my day.

Once I got up I got dressed and headed out to do my Saturday errands. I DO NOT look forward to Saturday errands…even though I get to go alone. However, I did make a pit stop at my favorite store pick up a new pair of jeans and some tops.

When I got home James and I traded. He took of to do some stuff and I stayed with the girls. I should have done a little bit of cleaning but instead decided to do a little crafting. The girls were destroying the house anyway. No sense in cleaning until they went to bed.

Tonight we watched the OU vs. Notre Dame game. OU lost. The mood in this house is not so great. I might have done a little bit of bad mood cleaning afterward. Does anyone else do that?…clean when they are mad or in a bad mood?

We were way off schedule with the girls today. We had a late dinner and didn’t get them in bed until after 10. Tillie was a little bit fussy this evening but it still amazes me how well they are able to adjust when we get off schedule. (Not that we have a set schedule…it’s more of a routine).

photo 2 photo 1 (5)

Notice how clean their play area is in the picture on the left? We’re working on clean up. They do pretty good when we tell them to clean up…especially now. They love putting things in baskets, bins, etc. They were in no mood for cleaning tonight…too tired…so momma & daddy had to do the clean up. Thanks girls.

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 26-Silly Monkeys

31 Days Button

Remember yesterday’s post where I mentioned Tillie going on a sleep strike for the 3rd night in a row? Well, Tensley woke up a 6:30am. She cried for a few seconds and then got quiet so I assumed she went back to sleep. So I went back to sleep…or rather, I tried to go back to sleep. Then she woke up again at 7:30. This time she fussed on and off for several minutes so I looked at the monitor and saw her standing up and laying her head on the rail. So I got up to see what was going on.

I got her out of her crib and as I was debating taking her back to bed with me or going down to the living room to let her watch cartoons while I dozed, I smelled it. I started to change her diaper and then I saw how bad it was. Poor baby was raw in her diaper area. No wonder she was trying to sleep standing up! :( So she had a bath before 8am.

Once I got both girls dressed and settled in the living room with cartoons and their toys I headed into the kitchen to make their breakfast. While I was cleaning up the kitchen (I hate having to clean before I can prepare a meal), I heard Tillie making cute noises. I peeked through our pass through window into the playroom and saw Tillie looking at some books. It was like she was reading them only making up her own story. Then I realized that the books she had were not in their reach. And then I looked up and noticed the small lamp on top of the book shelf teetering on the edge and books missing. Aye yai yai. I mean she has started climbing some but not to those heights! I quickly ran into the play area and moved the lamp to a more stable position.

The rest of the day was easy going. They took a decent nap and were in a really good mood after. They played and chased each other and giggled.

Right before James got home, I decided we needed to go out for dinner and make a trip to Target. I managed to get a shower when the girls napped so all I had to do was finish getting ready. I thought they would play in their room but instead they decided our room was better…and closer to momma.

I remembered when they’re in their room they like to play with their headbands, bows & flower clips so I grabbed them and took them to my room. I had no idea it would keep them busy for so long!

When we finally started to head out for dinner, I tried to find a jacket or sweater for the girls since it’s really cold here this week. I came up empty handed so we ended up taking a couple of fleece blankets to wrap them up in from the car to restaurant/store. First thing to get on the list at Target was coats! And guess what! I found some really cute ones and they had 2 of the same size/style! (It’s been really hard to find 2 of the same style and size in anything for them lately.)

It’s a good thing we left the house pretty early because by 7:30 both girls were getting very sleepy. We did baths pretty soon after we got home and then I cleaned up their bathroom and their room (because the toddlers had destroyed the back part of the house while I was getting ready). While I was picking up, James yelled at me to come here. When I got back down to the living room, this is what I saw…

Silly monkeys. I don’t know if Tillie was just trying to aggravate her sister or if she wanted to cuddle. All I know is that Tensley wasn’t protesting. She must have been really tired.

31 Days in the Life of a Twin Mom: Day 25–Story Time

31 Days Button

This morning we went to story time at the library. The girls like the songs but can’t seem to sit still long enough to listen to the stories. Tillie will sit in my lap but Tensley roams so either I or the other mom I go with ends up chasing her. At the end of story time, they do bubbles. They are a huge hit with the girls. They like chasing them and trying to catch them.

This was before we left. The girls were having their “breakfast in a cup” and watching MMCH while I got everything together to head out the door.

It’s a good thing the library is very close to me because story time only lasts about 30 minutes. Since I had the girls dressed I really wanted to do something else but a serious cold front came through and I didn’t really have anywhere I needed to go so we came home.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. They took an almost 3 hour nap so I did a few things around the house. When they woke up we played, had snacks and right before James got home, we had a dance party.

When it came to bed time, Tillie had a freak out for the 3rd night in a row. We let her stay up with a little while then I ended up rocking her. We both fell asleep in the rocking chair around 10:45. I woke up an hour later and took her to bed.

Both girls seem to not be up to par since their shots last Friday. I don’t know if it was the shots or if they just happened to catch a cold or something at the same time. I really hope they are back to normal soon.

My New Favorite iPhone App

For quite a while now I’ve been looking for a To-Do list app that had all the bells and whistles. The Reminders app that comes with the iPhone was a start but I needed more. Several people had raved about Evernote so I tried it but it just didn’t have the features I was looking for so I was back on the search for an app.

One night I was telling James what I was looking for and telling him all the things I wanted the app to do. As we were laying in bed, both on our phones, I began to do yet another search and came across this app called Errands.

As I read the description, I got excited about the app so I downloaded it. As it was downloading, James pointed his phone toward me and said, “hey, have you seen this app?” I love it when he listens to me. :)

Here is my screen as I go into the app.

photo 5

I love that I can categorize my to-do list. The stick figure is for actual errands. The paper clip represents work and the house, is for things I need to do at home. The little squares under each of those icons is where you check off the item when the task is completed.

Setting up a task is pretty simple. This is where you categorize your task, set the priority, due date & time, any alerts you want, if you want it to repeat and notes.

photo 1 (3) photo 2 (2)

I love that you can make the notes area a check list! But then I’m one of those types that has to be able to mark off every little thing as it gets done. It just makes me feel like I’m being productive. Ha!

photo 4 (3)

Another thing that I love about this app is the main reason I downloaded this app…the reminder feature!

photo 1 (4)

I love that the developer used the word nag. That’s exactly what I needed! I haven’t used the nag every minute option (I’m not that forgetful…I don’t think) but you can bet your hiney that I use the nag every hour feature on just about every one of my tasks. Haha!

This is a free app. You can upgrade for $2.99 which includes a couple more features but the cost is mainly to help out the developer. I will definitely be upgrading in the near future.

There are so many more features to this app but I just wanted to share my most favorite features. If you’re looking for a Reminder/To-Do list app, I encourage you to go check it out!

**I was not compensated for this post. This is just something I found and didn’t want to keep to myself. :)
