Wahoo Wednesday

Since I haven’t done a TnT update in quite a while, I figured I would use this week’s randoms post to do one.

  • They are going to be 1 in 9 days! Eeeeep!
  • They both weigh somewhere between 22-25 lbs
  • They are wearing size 4 diapers, 12-18 month clothes, and size 3 shoes
  • Tillie has 2 bottom teeth and Tensley has her two bottom teeth and 2 top teeth.
  • Both girls still have their beautiful blue eyes (pretty sure it’s safe to say they will stay blue)
  • Tillie has pretty thick, very blonde wavy hair (is she really my child?)
  • Tensley’s hair is more like my um…natural color and now that it’s growing, seems to have a little bit of curl to it.

photo 1 06 16 12_0422 05 23 12_0313

  • Tillie is doing great with her PT. Now that she’s very mobile, it’s helping her torticollis a lot. She’s also made significant progress with her helmet in just 2 short months.
  • I think she’s going to be my girly girl. She gets excited when I put her clothes on…she has to look them over first before I put them on. And when Tensley pulls out her bow out of her hair, she tries to put it back on.
  • She is pointing at everything. If she’s pointing because she wants something and you don’t figure out what she wants in a timely matter, she gets a little irritated.
  • She has recently developed an obsession with balls and let me tell you, girlfriend has quite an arm on her.
  • She is pulling up and walking up and down furniture and anything else she can hold on to. She has also in the past day or so started trying to stand on her own.
  • She has the cutest squeal/giggle/laugh and gets excited about & thinks everything is funny…including momma telling her ‘No!’
  • She loves music and loves to dance. The Group One Crew Pandora station is her favorite. She’s pretty much mastered the hip hop hand pump. haha!
  • Mickey Mouse Club House and Barney are currently her favorite shows. She also likes Blue’s Clues, Backyardigans and Bubble Guppies
  • She has become a little bit of a picky eater. She loves fruits and most veggies and hates macNcheese (again, is she really my child?)

photo 2 06 16 12_0427 1703

  • Tensley is very, very close to walking. She has been standing on her own for a couple of weeks now and has started taking steps when holding on to our fingers…she’s working on her confidence. ;)
  • Girlfriend loves to talk with her hands. She’ll sit there and just start jabbering all while holding her hands out like ‘I don’t know’ and then puts them over her face like ‘Oh No’ and then she’'ll rub her hands through her hair. It’s quite hilarious. I just wish I knew what she was saying!
  • After watching her sister for a few weeks, she’s decided to start pointing too. She doesn’t point with as much enthusiasm as Tillie but she’s starting to point to things she wants.
  • She’s become much more focused when playing. She doesn’t pick up a toy and then throw it aside like she used to. She will now sit with it and try to figure out how it works.
  • She will sit and watch pretty much anything that’s on TV. She gets in a trance sometimes…I think mainly when she’s tired.
  • She is a great eater! She’ll eat pretty much anything we give her.
  • For a while she started doing this woody woodpecker giggle. It was the funniest thing! Now she gasps when she gets excited about something.
  • She’s so serious a lot of the time. She’s a happy baby but doesn’t smile too often.
  • She’s sneaky. I have learned when I hear Tillie giggle and then silence, Tensley is up to something and that I need to go investigate.

 photo 3 05 24 12_0307 06 06 12_0332

  • Both girls seem to be momma’s girls although they love seeing their daddy when he gets home from work.
  • If I’m in the floor with them, they both have to be touching me. Especially Tensley…she’ll be playing or watching TV but have one hand on my leg at all times.
  • They both have started giving kisses. We’re working on blowing kisses but they don’t quite have the blowing part down
  • They both like patty cake and itsy bitsy spider and they do all the hand motions.
  • They have both learned how to tell me when they are all done by wiping their hands together (does that make sense?)
  • They love playing together and I love hearing the giggles and squeals when they do.

It’s a fun but busy time in our house right now and we are soaking up as much of it as we can.

For MoMs by MoMs: Your Questions Answered

Hello MoMs! Glad you stopped by! We’re answering your questions that were asked last week. We want you to know that we are answering by telling you what has worked for us. We are in no way experts on raising multiples (except maybe our own and sometimes that’s questionable, haha) so please take these answers for what their worth to you. I hope you can find the anwer(s) your looking for and if you don’t, let us know and maybe we can find someone who might be able to help! Speaking of…if you would like to answer any of these questions in a post of your own, we have provided a link up so feel free to link up your answer post!

Ok, let’s get started.

My twins are almost a year old and are into everything! My main problem right now is biting! Any advice on getting babes this young not to bite? – Mary

I personally haven’t had this problem…yet but I would probably separate them. I usually keep them in the same space but I move them a few feet away from the other and try to distract with some other activity. This is what I do now when one is climbing all over the other or pulling each other’s hair, etc and most of the time, it works.

Im 31 weeks with twin boys. Did you have any ideas on the personalities of your twins, and if so were you correct? Mine seem so different already! – Brittany

Yes! I totally knew how my girls were going to be. In fact, just recently, my family and other people have mentioned how different they are and how they can’t believe that one is like this and the other like that. I tried to tell them before they were even born how they were going to be. Tensley is my mover and shaker. In utero, she was always moving and doing flips. We even have a video of an ultrasound where she’s doing somersaults and kicking her sister in the head (well, not literally kicking her head but it sure looked that way!) Tillie would always kick in utero and to this day, when she gets excited or upset, her legs start going.

Did you sleep train? If so, when did you start? – daysofserenity

Just recently, I guess you could say I sleep trained. When the girls were born, they slept good and we didn’t really have any problems until around 10 weeks. Then we started having sleep issues until just a couple of weeks ago. They’ve slept through the night really well from about 4-5 months but our problem was GETTING them to go to sleep. After several nights of being up until 3am, we finally did a little CIO. I had tried everything else with no luck. It was our last ditch effort….and it worked! It was hard but the first time we took them to their cribs, told them it was night night time, rocked them in our arms for a minute or so and kissed them and told them night night and that we loved them. Tillie fussed only for a few seconds and Tensley had a meltdown (she’s the drama queen) but it only lasted probably less than 5 minutes (it felt like 30).

My suggestion on this is establish a nightly routine and stick with it (the rituals….bath, bottle, bed time story, etc and the time you put them to bed)!  We became flexible with their bed time because well, we were tired (and maybe a little too lazy) to deal with it so we just let them stay up until they basically just passed out and then took them to their cribs. Now? They go to bed around 8-8:30 and I get them up at 7:30. I also put them down for naps at the same time every day too. Even if they don’t sleep, they stay in their cribs until it’s time to get up.

I'm having twins come November. I've been crazy researching strollers. Which ones do you guys have and what are some of the pros and cons. – Marianna

I have the Chicco Cortina Together stroller and loved it until recently. It worked great when they were in their carriers.
It’s light weight
The storage basket underneath is large
It pushes pretty easily
It has 2 cup holders and a little storage compartment in between the cup holders (I like to put my keys and phone in there)

Now that they’re older and not in the carriers…
Only the back seat fully reclines
It does not have trays…it only comes with a nap bar for the front seat and 2 cup holders that also attach only to the front
There is a brace in front of the back seat that is used for the carriers and it does not come off so the child that sits in the back has that brace right in front of them. It makes me feel claustrophobic but actually doesn’t seem to bother my girls.

Any tips for potty training? Were you able to train both twins at the same time? My boys are 18 months and we hope to start around 2ish? – Holli

I wish I had an answer for this one but my girls aren’t old enough for potty training. Hopefully, someone will link up with some answers/advice for you!

I have 6 month old twin girls and they are horrible nappers. . . any tips on getting them to take better/longer naps? – Kathryn

I also had this issue. What I did to resolve it was wake them up at the same time every day, put them down for naps at the same time every day, and make sure they have play time in between to make them tired. I think the rule of thumb is for them to sleep minimum 45 minutes to maximum of 2 hours.  Sometimes my girls only nap for 45 minutes and then other times I have to wake them up after 2 hours. And I’m sure you’ve already heard this but consistency is key.

How do you balance treating your twins fairly with treating them as individuals with individual needs? - that crunchy twin mom

When I first saw this question, I couldn’t wait to sit down and answer it. Now that am answering these questions, I’m not sure how to answer this one! I don’t think I’ve really had a problem with this yet…I guess maybe it  just seems to come naturally to me? Or maybe my psychology background helps? I don’t know. The best I can do is to say I know their personalities, take that into account and act accordingly. I may not always be right or fair but I try my best.

There they are, my best answers to your questions. If you want to answer or elaborate on any of these, feel free to link up! Also, don’t forget to “hop” on over to the other MoM hostesses and check out their answers because I can almost guarantee you they’ll probably be different than mine!

Lost and Found

Raise your hand if you’re a mom and you find yourself constantly looking for something that has gone missing be it toys, your keys, pacis, etc. You are all raising your hand, aren’t you?

I experience mom brain daily and some days it’s excruciatingly worse than normal. Then there are those days where my husband and children like to mess with me and make me feel like I’ve lost my mind. I’m thinking back to a day when Tillie had a PT appointment and I was already running a little late. I was getting ready to load up the car so I went to grab my keys…..they weren’t there….in one of the spots I normally put my keys. I started looking in all the other spots where I normally set down my keys. No Luck. Then I started retracing my steps from the last time I remember seeing them. I spent 20 minutes looking for the stupid car keys. Then I decided to text James to see if he remembered seeing them anywhere. ‘Nope’ was the response I got. Well crud! After some texting back and forth and coming to the conclusion that I’d lost my mind it suddenly dawned on him, ‘Oh wait, um……don’t be mad….your keys are in my jacket pocket….the jacket that I’m currently wearing.’ Ugh. I had to cancel that PT appointment. The upside? I hadn’t lost my mind after all.

Now let’s discuss how my babies try to make me feel like I’ve lost my mind. Toys? We are constantly losing toys. Their play area is about 12 x 12 and toys rarely come out of that area yet we still have toys go missing. How does this happen?! Sometimes I’ve found that they have stuffed them into other toys but still, as of right now, I can think of a couple of things we are missing.

Pacis, Binkies, or whatever you call them…did/do your children hide them from you? This one I don’t get. They want, no they NEED their pacis but yet they hide them from you. Why is this?!  I have looked high and low for pacis the last couple of days and we are now only missing one (after I found 4 by moving almost every piece of furniture in their room). I can just see it now…the girls will go off to college and as I’m cleaning out their room to turn it back into my craft room (ha!) those pacis that I thought were forever gone will suddenly appear.

So you see? I haven’t lost my mind after all….

WooHoo Wednesday!

I had to ask hubby what day it was last night. It’s amazing when you don’t work outside the home how often you lose track of the days. I guess that’s because technically, I never leave my job.

Thank you for the sweet comments about the pictures of TnT from yesterday’s post.

I’ve been a little stressed lately. I know this because my teeth hurt from clenching my jaw. I’m working on letting go of feeling the need to have everything done and perfect on a daily basis. I may be letting go a little too much…is it really possible to find balance?

I spent all afternoon yesterday cleaning off my phone. It got to where I couldn’t take pictures because “My storage was full”. I decided, however, that I need a program that will let you pick and choose the photos/videos you want to download from your camera/phone because I now have duplicates on my computer due to the fact that I don’t delete ALL my pictures after I download them. Anywho, I went from almost 1800 pictures on my phone down to a little less than 200. I went from no storage to 7.7GB. I can now run the 50 app updates that have been taunting me for weeks now. Ugh.

I’m getting more and more mommas addicted to International Delight’s Iced Coffee. I’m thinking they should give me a kick back of some kind….or at least a huge stack of coupons. ;) If you need coupons, let me know, I see them often…I hope they don’t slow down on issuing them. Also, if you can’t find it, it’s usually found in the refrigerated dairy section with the milk.

Party planning is coming along slowly. The invitations went out this weekend. I know what I’m doing as far as decorations and food but I really need to get in gear and get it done because, HELLO? TnT’s birthday is in like 17 days!! =/

Ok, I’m stressed again. ::Jaws clenched::

I’ve taught the girls “All Done” by swiping their hands together. They’ve gotten really good at it. Usually I have to ask if they are “all done” before they do it but in the last couple of days, they’ve done it without me asking. They’re so smart. :)

I have a list of party printable orders that I’m working on. I’m LOVING it! Being able to use my creative mind keeps me sane…it’s like my stress reliever. Eventually, I want to start styling some parties so I can take pictures of my actual products. Here’s a couple of orders I’ve finished in the last week.
Happy-Summer-1 Tractor-Invite

Speaking of being creative…I’ve decided to combine my other blog with this one so you’ll be seeing some of my work on here. You will also be able to access my freebies here too. This means a tiny bit of re-design for the blog but you shouldn’t notice any major changes…just mainly more items on my menu header above.

I’m getting closer to offering advertising spots. I’ll probably start out small just to test it out. If you are interested, shoot me an email.

Happy Wednesday!

Getting on the Canvas Bandwagon

I’ve been wanting to do pictures of the girls on canvas but wasn’t sure where in my house to put them. I also haven’t been able to decide on a picture to use.

On Saturday, I had the girls dressed up because we had taken James’s dad out for an early Father’s day lunch. When early evening came, it was kind of cloudy and I thought, ‘this would be great light for pictures outside and we have those aqua chairs that would make a great prop’. So I ran outside, grabbed a chair, cleaned it up, placed it in the yard and then grabbed the girls. They had never been outside in the grass before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just started snapping….with the help of James who kept them from eating whatever they could find.

Anyway, here’s the one that I think is canvas worthy (most of you have probably already seen it if you follow me on Instagram). I had this vision of also getting 2 smaller canvases (same height but narrower) of each of the girls standing up at the chair to put on either side of this one but after reviewing the pictures, I only got one of Tensley standing up and looking at the camera…Tillie was squatting down. :(

Here’s the standing/squatting pics..

06-16-12_0416 06-16-12_0418

And because when you take pictures of children, there are always outtakes.

Tensley: I wonder if I can get down from this chair…it doesn’t look like it’s too far down.
Tillie:  Hey, look over there! What is that?

Tillie: Hey sis, look. What is that?
Tensley: That green stuff is interesting. I really wish I could get down there and check it out…maybe taste a little of it.

Tillie: Now it’s over there! Sis! Look! What is that?!
Tensley: I have no idea! Why do you keep pointing at things?

Happy Tuesday!

For MoMs by MoMs: Ask us Anything!

This week we are doing something a little different! Jennifer, Amanda, Megan and myself have been talking about For MoMs by MoMs a lot lately and how we could make it better. We have come up with some good topics for our link-up and it seems we are getting a few more friends that are spreading the word about For MoMs by MoMs. We would really love to keep doing this and we love reading everyone's posts each week.. We are thinking about changing the day of the linky because Monday’s just seem to be too hard for everyone so we would like to know which days you think would work better.

This week is Part 1 of a Q&A post where you will be asking us questions and we, the For MoMs hostesses will be answering them (as best we can) in next week’s post. Feel free to ask us anything! It can be about For MoMs by MoMs, taking care of multiples, questions about the For MoMs hostesses or anything else you can think of! Taking care of multiples is a full time job itself and we just want to be here for everyone! We are all learning day by day and being a new MoM comes with a LOT of questions! So, we encourage you to ask anything and everything! Also, if you find any question(s) in the linky list that you would like to answer, feel free to do an answer post of your own and link up with us next week!

*Don’t forget to let us know what day(s) you think would work better for our weekly link ups!
**We are not experts on “mommying”. No one is. We do all have multiples and different parenting styles so all the questions we plan on answering are coming from 4 mommies with 4 different parenting styles. We don’t know everything and we probably never will but we just want to help where help is needed and let you know what has worked for us! It will be up to you to decide what works best for you. Thanks Again!

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

This week I had grilled hamburgers on the menu. With a chance of rain and frozen ground beef (due to bad planning on my part) I needed to come up with something quick. Craving a cheeseburger something bad, I decided to proceed with my planned meal and I have to say the resulting meal turned out pretty darn good.

I don’t have an exact recipe b/c I usually just make it up as I go so if you have any questions about it, feel free to email me.

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

1 lb of ground beef
Shredded Cheese – Your choice
Hamburger fixins

Brown ground beef. Season to taste. I browned mine with salt, pepper and chopped onions.

Squirt desired amount of ketchup (I circled the skillet about 3-4 times). Add mustard (not too much unless you like lots of mustard). Stir until all the beef is coated.

Stir in a couple of handfuls of your shredded cheese.

Spoon mixture onto hamburger bun, add your favorite fixins (lettuce, tomato, etc) and dinner is served!

If you try this recipe, let me know what you thought.

Fruit Cocktail Trees

Yes, you read that right. We have and have had 2 fruit cocktail trees on our property. They are suppose to bear like 5 different kinds of fruit and honestly, I’m not sure I’ve seen five…maybe 2 but not 5. Believe it or not, we have never eaten the fruit because the either the birds got to it before we could or they got too ripe and fell to the ground and then got mowed over.

This past week, we finally picked and ate the fruit. This year, it’s plums and Oh. Em. Gee. they are delicious. They are so sweet and taste like candy. They are also totally organic because we’ve never done anything to the trees except cut limbs. No fertilizer. No Pesticides. Nothing.

On Tuesday evening the girls were restless. We hadn’t been out of the house since Saturday and they were already going stir crazy so I loaded them up in their little wagon and took them for a ride around our property. Toward the end of our little jaunt around the yard, we stopped at the trees and I started picking some of the fruit. Before I knew it I had a huge bowl full.

The girls couldn’t wait to get their hands on them. I mean, they do look like balls and I’m sure the sweet smell was very intriguing.

I’m not sure how since she doesn’t have any top teeth yet but Tillie managed to break through the tough skin first and Tensley wasn’t far behind.

They were pretty happy about their little treat at the end of their wagon ride.

Straight to the bathtub they went!

A Ladies Brunch & Free Printable

This past Saturday, I attended a brunch hosted by a sweet, sweet lady in our Sunday school class. We had split from another class because it was getting so big so it was good to get to talk with and get to know the other girls in our new class without distraction of kids or husbands. :)

This was the color inspiration inspired by a pin on Pinterest that I unfortunately, did not pin. :(

We had some very yummy food like quiches, fruit chicken salad sandwiches, and cupcakes!

06-08-12_0366 06-08-12_037106-08-12_0372 06-08-12_0373

Check out those labels! I love how they turned out. I think I’ll use them in a tea party printable set for the shop.

As some of you know, I was in charge of the favors.

06-08-12_0348 06-08-12_0347

I came up with the idea of using tea cups and then had to figure out what to put in them. Some of you suggested I make these cookies found on Pinterest and I did, but they didn’t turn out near as neat so I hid them in these little tea bags I made with a smaller version of the print I did of Proverbs 31.30. I filled the cups with candy an emery board and some little fabric flower pins that I made. I think everyone liked them. It’s the first time I’ve made those little flowers and I can’t wait to wear mine!

If you like this print, you can download it HERE (you can also click on the picture to download).

*Don’t forget you can still link up with our For MoMs post on Feeding and schedules. Next week, we’ll be taking all of your questions and answering them the following week.

For MoMs by MoMs: Feeding & Schedules

Welcome to this week’s link up! This week we are talking about feedings and schedules and Jennifer is this week’s hostess with the mostess! If you’ve posted about either or both topics, be sure to link up your post(s)!

I’ve talked about feeding and schedules before but for this post I’m going to start with what to do during your pregnancy. Before the babies are born. Just a warning, this post is long but please, please read it through and learn from my mistakes.

While I was pregnant with my girls, I was determined to breastfeed because I knew how good it is for them and it is very economical…easy on the budget. I was so determined that I refused to buy any formula or bottles whatsoever. This is where I went wrong.

My first mistake was not taking a breastfeeding class. After 2 babies I considered my sister a pro and was relying on her to teach me everything she knew. What I didn’t plan on was my babies being in the NICU and the fact that when they did come home, my sister would be working or taking care of her own 2 kids.

Also, I knew nothing about rusty pipe syndrome. I think I pumped in the hospital for almost 2 days before I actually produced anything that I could send to the girls in the NICU. It wasn’t much…like maybe a tablespoon but it had lots of blood in it. So much that the NICU nurse taking care of the girls sent it back & said they couldn’t use it. I continued to pump every 2-3 hours in the hospital and then at home. It was almost 2 weeks before the blood finally cleared up.

Once my milk came in and the blood was gone, I started to try to feed the girls. Tillie was a pro and latched on pretty well but wasn’t getting enough most of the time. Also, it hurt really, really, bad. Tensley would just scream & cry and refuse to latch on so I would try to pump and give her a bottle with breastmilk. So basically, I was doing formula and breastmilk for both. Thankfully, the NICU sent us home with a bag full of the little bottles of formula.

For about 3 months I tried breastfeeding and during that time I think I quit twice. I finally gave up. To this day, I regret not educating myself more so I could feed my babies. Now? We are anxiously waiting for the day that we no longer have to buy formula because of the cost. Even finding the best deals on formula, and using coupons every chance we get, we are still spending around$75 a week for formula.

My advice for you…if you want to breastfeed, educate yourself…and stock up on formula. Even if you don’t end up using it, you can always donate it to a pregnancy center or your church if they have a nursery. If you don’t plan on breastfeeding, stock up on formula.

Ok, now for schedules…I’m not sure what else to say other than use one! Make sure you have the babies on the same schedule. Feed them at the same time, put them down for naps & bedtime at the same time, Bathe them at the same time, etc. Trust me, this will save your sanity.

The good thing about the girls being in the NICU was that they came home on a schedule so when they came home, we kept to that schedule. They ate every 3 hours so we would change them, feed them, then put them back down to sleep. I think I touched on this last week but once the sleep depravation hit, I insisted that we slack off on the schedule. James thought it was a bad idea but gave in to his crazy, hormonal wife. Looking back now, I wish I had stuck with the schedule.

With this said, you’re schedule is not always the best for the babies. I’m not saying don’t stick with a schedule (why would I when I just told you to stick to one!), but be open to when the schedule needs to be adjusted. This is something I struggled with and something that really bothered me. I didn’t seem to understand the girls cries and couldn’t figure out their needs while James seemed to know. He would tell me they were hungry but I would say, “but it’s not time for their next feeding”. I would give in and we would feed them and then they would settle down. This is when you want to increase the amount they are getting.

Because James seemed to know what they needed and I didn’t, I felt like such a failure as a mom. I don’t know if this was because I was a first time mom, or if it was because I didn’t get to bond with the girls much while they were in the NICU. I think James did because he spent a lot of time in the NICU…especially when I couldn’t (I was stuck in bed for 24 hours while getting 2 units of blood). After a few weeks, of being home with them, I was finally able to know what they needed.

Geez, I feel like I’m all over the place with today’s topic. Basically, what I’m telling you is to stick to your gut…follow that mom instinct. It won’t let you down, I promise. You can read all the books and take all the advice that comes your way but it won’t always fit with what’s best for you, your babies, and/or you family. Use all of this as a guideline but know that it’s not the only way.

If you have any questions on this topic, please feel free to email me or Jennifer or Amanda or Megan. We’ve all had different experiences and we all found what works best for us and so will you!
