It’s Amazing…

It’s amazing what a full night of sleep can do for you. For the last few weeks, the girls have been taking turns waking up during the night. I don’t always have to get up, but every little sound they make wakes me up. Both girls, especially Tillie, have been crying in their sleep. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Sometimes I get up and just re-position them and they stop crying and sometimes they’ll cry for a minute then stop. This has been happening, on average 4-6 times per night so you can imagine how tired this momma has been.

Anyway, for some reason, neither one made a peep last night and I woke up feeling so refreshed! So, with this new found energy (aside from the normal taking care of babies thing) I…

Made myself breakfast and cleaned the kitchen.

And cleaned one of our bathrooms! (Like deep cleaned)

I also did a load of laundry and cooked dinner. James gave the girls their baths while I was cooking and it was nice to be able to actually sit down for the evening before 7pm.

Let’s hope these girls sleep good again tonight. I have another bathroom I’m dying to clean!

Happy Saturday!

Just thought I’d share this cute little video I captured of the girls this morning.

It’s just me and the girls today. James took a road trip to see his grandma & we stayed behind since we have had the sickies this week.

Easy, Quick, and Oh So Yummy!

Apple Turnover

Is your mouth watering yet?

This, my friends, is a home-made*ish apple turnover…a la mode.

It was very easy. I bought the ingredients a while back…on one of my couponing trips…and James decided…after me telling him what the ice cream was for…that my idea was a pretty good one and that he was going to make it…because he knew I certainly wasn’t getting up to make it after spending all day taking care of the girls, cleaning like a mad woman, doing laundry, and cooking dinner.

Here is what you’ll need to make this delicious dessert:

Ingredients

Step 1:  Preheat the oven to the temperature on the Crescent Rolls and warm up the cinnamon apples.

Step 2:  While the apples are warming, separate the crescent rolls into the triangles and press out making them a little bigger.

Step 3:  Once the apples are warm, spoon them out onto a triangle and take another triangle and put over the top. Press the two triangles together making a seal around the edges.

Step 4:  Ok now here’s the best part…well, the whole thing really is the best part but this makes the flavor of the rolls extra yummy. Are you ready? Wait for it………wait for it……..sprinkle brown sugar on top and bake for about 12-14 minutes or until rolls are brown.

Step 5:  Let turnovers cool slightly and then sprinkle powdered sugar on top and serve with vanilla ice cream. Yields 4 servings.

See! Easy & quick, right?

So, go.

Go now.

Go right now and make these for yourself.

You won’t regret it.

I promise.

P.S. Thank you honey for um, improving upon the “recipe” that was in my head. :)

Post Nap Giggles

The girls have always wanted to be near each other. Sometimes one of them gets annoyed that the other is so close…and trying to steal toys, pacis, pull hair or whatever…but ultimately, you can tell they love each other. Recently, they have started noticing each other, like really noticing each other and interacting.

Yesterday they were sooo cute! They had just woke up from a nap in their bouncers and I was sitting at my workspace…on the couch with the laptop in my lap :)…and Tillie started laughing, like full on cackling/squealing laughing. When I looked up to see what was going on, I saw that Tensley had one of those crinkle books, you know, the ones that sound like wadding up paper when you touch them and she was hitting it making the crinkle sound and Tillie was just cracking up. Tensley would wait until Tillie stopped laughing and then she’d hit the book again. Occasionally, she would let out a little “heh, heh” and then hit the book again. Before long she had me cracking up. It. Was. The. Cutest. Thing. Ever. …and I tried to get it on video but as soon as they noticed the camera, they stopped. :(

I am so blessed to have such happy babies and I am so glad that they will always have each other.

And now for some silly, happy baby cuteness overload.

We’ve Got the Sickies

Aside from dragging myself out to get some Sudafed last night, I have not been out of the house since last Friday. The girls came down with a cold last week and Sunday night, it hit this momma. They seemed to handle it better than me. They still wanted to eat & play but I just wanted to lay around and do absolutely nothing. So, after some prodding from James, I finally went and got some Sudafed and today, I felt so much better. I had to sleep on the couch last night because Tillie was only able to sleep in her bouncer due to her congested, snotty nose but I slept great.

The weather was beautiful today, sunny & in the 70’s. I didn’t get out to enjoy it but just the thought of it being so nice out made me get the Spring cleaning bug. And, you know, since I was feeling so good today, I decided to get our tax stuff together so I started sorting the mountain of papers that were strung across every surface in our home office. And then, once I found our desk and filing cabinet, I dusted it! Probably not a great idea for someone who has a cold/sinus issues but the urge was there so I gave in to it. I really wish I had taken before & after pictures, it was BAD. I also managed to finish 3 loads of laundry & clean the kitchen. This was the most I’ve done in days, people…maybe even weeks!

We’re all still a little under the weather and now James seems to be coming down with the sickies. Did I mention my sister and her family all had colds and then a stomach virus? Yeah, we haven’t seen them in a while even though they practically live next door. Let’s hope that stomach virus doesn’t find it’s way here. Anyway, I hope my energy continues to return because with so many people getting sick, especially the babies, we’ve decided to limit the girls outings through next month. We will really only get them out for Tillie’s PT appointments and any other doctor’s appointments they have.

Pray for me because even though it’s not as bad now that I have babies, I am bad about getting cabin fever. I will definitely be looking forward to getting out for Tillie’s PT appointments every Friday.

I Love Saving Money

I am a couponer (I have to be since we went from a family of 2 to a family of 4 and an income of 2 to an income of 1). I do not, however, consider myself an extreme couponer like you see on TV. I like to have a small stock pile…although I find that we often eat most of the “stock pile” before the next good sale comes along. I do not have 500 bottles of shampoo or 300 sticks of deodorant or 200 bottles of mustard. However,at any given time you might find 17 boxes of cereal in my pantry. What? You don’t eat cereal for breakfast, dinner & dessert?

I try to make at least one couponing trip per week…unless the sale just sucks then I don’t go at all that week…and I usually spend somewhere around $20-$30 and save around 60-65%. This week I was so giddy about my shopping trip that I decided I HAD to blog about it. This week I saved 75%! It’s been a while since I’ve saved that much…on my very first couponing trip I think I saved like 82% but haven’t done that well since…and it’s kinda hard when only one “like” coupon doubles. This means that if you buy 2 or more of the same thing and have coupons for both items, only the first one doubles and the other is just taken at face value. I’d really like to know where and how these extreme couponers get around this because most stores that I’ve seen have the same type of policy.

I also meal plan for 2 weeks at a time…because pay day is every other Friday. When I plan out my meals, I typically only need to buy about 2-5 items…I try to plan my meals around what I have “in stock”.

Ok, so to show off this week’s couponing trip….are you as excited as I am? ;)

Here are the notable deals that I got:
12pk of Coke Zero = FREE (thanks to my coke rewards)
2 boxes Totino’s Pizza Rolls = $0.26 for both
2 packages of Land o Frost lunch meat = $0.60 for both
2 boxes of Famous Amos cookies = $0.99/ea.
5 boxes of Hamburger Helper = $0.59/ea.
1 bottle Welch’s Grape Jelly = $0.19
Hormel Always Tender Pork Chops = $2.74
Philadelphia Indulgence Milk Chocolate spread = FREE + $0.50 overage
2 cans Bumble Bee tuna = FREE
Keebler Fudge Stripes cookies = $0.44
Kraft Fresh Take (Mix Coat & Bake kit) = FREE

I spent a total of $27.38 tax included (I had to buy a couple of things without coupons but the items I bought were on sale).

Sometimes clipping & printing coupons is a pain in the you know what but when I get to that check out line and the adrenaline rush that washes over me as I watch my total go down, down, down makes it all worth it!

In what ways do you save money? I’d love to hear all about it!

Low Key V-Day

I woke up thinking I would make a special meal for James for Valentine’s day. We hadn’t discussed doing anything and honestly, I had forgotten that it was Valentine’s day until the night before.

I woke the girls up, gave them their bottles and decided to take a shower in case I needed to run to the store. When I went to get the girls out of bed both of them had runny noses and Tillie’s was the worst. I changed their diapers and suctioned out their noses then took them to the living room to play while I made their breakfast. When I picked Tillie up, I noticed her runny nose was worse and it was yellow. Ewwww. A call to the doctor turned into a trip to the doctor just to make sure they were ok. It is RSV season, ya know. So much for the special meal for hubby.

James took off early to go with me (the doctor’s office is the only place I don’t like to go without help). The girls checked out fine. No signs of RSV whatsoever, praise the Lord! Turns out they just have a simple cold. Oh, and by the way, Tillie now weighs 18lbs 11oz and Tensley weighs 17lbs 14oz. They’ve gained over a pound in just 3 weeks!! At this rate, I’m going to go broke buying clothes for these two! Please tell me it slows down soon, please?

So after our lovely afternoon visit to the pediatrician we made a stop for Mexican food and of course, Target. While at dinner, James told me to check my email. When I checked it, I came across a confirmation for this…..!

I’m so excited and can’t wait til it gets here!

After dinner, we stopped at Target to spend too much money get the girls a toy we had been talking about getting for them. It’s a little piano that they can sit at now and play with that will also transition to when they are standing/walking. I think it’s safe to say that it was a good purchase.

It wasn’t an extravagant day but all in all it was a pretty good Valentine’s day. I got to spend it with my 3 most favorite people and that’s all that matters. Hope you all had a great Valentine’s day!

Run Baby Run!

I hate running…always have. The only time would want to run is if I were being chased. Well guess what…I’m being chased…by a giant scale….with a large number on it. A number that I DO. NOT. LIKE. It’s too big of a number. I need it to go away and go away fast so I did what anyone who knows me wouldn’t believe if I told them. I started running.

Last week, I downloaded the C25K app on my phone and did the first day. I loved it! Then this past weekend I did the second day and was reminded why I hate running. It was tough. It was the same session as the first time I did it but my body just didn’t’ want to do it. However, I burned 250 calories and that was enough motivation to carry on. I still hate running but I’m determined to lose the last of my preggo weight. Heck, I’m even thinking about doing a 5K in the Spring.

Have you tried the C25K app? Are you currently using it? Do you have any weight loss goals? Let’s cheer each other on!

P.S. Since my last post about MyFitnessPal, I’ve teetered around a 3 lb loss. It’s not much so I’m hoping this new workout will help. If you’re on MFP, look me up! I’m on there as HLMills.

It’s Time

It’s been 2 weeks since my MIL passed away. It’s been tough but it’s gone by fast. We’re doing ok…baby steps. Knowing that she is with Jesus in a much better place helps but there are still times when the sadness hits. Sometimes it hits hard and other times it comes and goes. We grieve. We carry on. It’s what she would have wanted.

It’s been 2 weeks. It’s time to get back to normal….a new normal. Last Wednesday, I got up, got the girls up and dressed for the day. I had no intention of going anywhere but as I was doing dishes that morning I decided I needed to get out of the house. I needed my mind to be distracted so I called my sister. Is just so happened that when she got her kids to school, they were met by a teacher who told them there was no school because they had a water main break and she had decided to take the kids to lunch and then to the Science Museum (a great place to go when the weather is icky). The girls and I decided to tag along (next time I’m taking my “real” camera)

Main FloorMouth
Playing with BubblesTractor Girl
Little Scientist

Little AstronautsPosers

We had a lot of fun. It was a good distraction and just what I needed. I felt refreshed and ready to conquer the world the next day.

I’m ready to get back to blogging again. I’ve had a lot of topics come up in my head that I need to get out (probably should jot them down before I forget!).
