December 30, 2011

Yesterday was a really good day. It was the first day I can remember where neither I or the girls got frustrated. Actually, we were laughing most of the day.

They woke up so I went to get their bottles & medicine ready. After their bottles, I took them into the living room for play time.

Play time

We played with some new toys and some not so new toys. When they got a little tired, I fed them their fruit and cereal and then I decided to try to get them to nap in their crib and guess what, it worked! I rocked each one a little and put them in their cribs and they went to sleep…for an hour and a half! Guess what I did? If you said nap, you’re funny. haha! I finished cleaning the kitchen, folded 2 loads of laundry and took a shower!

When they woke up they had another bottle and then we all got ready and ventured out to the grocery store. They do well anyway when we are out and about but they were in a very good mood thanks to that nap! When we got home we had some more play time. The girls were being so silly. They had me cracking up!

Silly girls

And then this happened….

Tensley the thief

Not only does Tensley hoard paci’s under her crib…she steals them too! I love that look on Tillie’s face like, “don’t even think about taking my paci!” hahahahaha!

Paci Thief

Paci Thief!!!!!! Haha!

Hope every one has a happy and safe New year!

Out & About with Twins…Alone

When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I didn’t even think about how I was going to manage once hubby went back to work and my help grew increasingly rare. After mustering up a little bit of courage, I started to figure it out.

Now, if I know we are going to be leaving the house the next day, I get the girls’ diaper bag packed up the night before, set out their clothes and try to get a shower myself (I typically like to shower in the morning but sometimes the night before is just easier). Once we are all ready, I pack up the diaper bag, my coupon box (because I don’t go anywhere without it!) and anything else we might need. Then I load the girls in their carriers (we use Chicco Key fit carriers) and then load them into the car one at a time. Off we go!

Once we get to where we are going, this is how I get everything out of the car…we use the Chicco Cortina Together Double Stroller (believe it or not, when the girls were smaller, I would carry both carriers…one on each arm!).

So I unload the stroller and then I attach the diaper bag to the handles (I have this Kalencom bag that has stroller straps on the sides) and then I load up the stroller with anything else that needs to go with us. Once I have everything unloaded, it’s time to get the babies out! I push the stroller to one side of the car, lock the wheels of the stroller (because I don’t want the stroller to go rogue on me…especially with a baby inside!) and then I attach the first girlie in her carrier onto the stroller. Then I push the stroller to the other side and do the same with the other girlie. I have this process down to about 2-3 minutes tops.

Once I get into the store, I grab my shopping cart and then push the cart with one hand while pulling the stroller with the other. I can do it this way because when the carrier handle is down, I use that as my handle. Now I’ve tried this the opposite way…where I push the stroller and pull the cart and it does not work for me this way at all. Because it’s so long and with the added weight, it’s much harder to steer the stroller with one hand…it’s easier to pull it.

To all twin mommies who have yet to try to venture out by themselves with their twinsies, if I can do this, so can you! However, be prepared to get a lot of looks and comments. Also, people are much more willing to help you (although I never let them because I’m a “I can do it myself” kind of girl. :)

Good luck mommies! Let me know if you try this and how it works for you. Also, if you have a different method, I’d love to hear about it!

Santa, Christmas and The Day After

In case you missed it, I took the girls last Wednesday to get their pictures taken with Santa. They did soooo good! Those tulle skirts, even though they were a pain in the you know what to make because of all the glitter, turned out really cute with their Santa onesies and their red sparkly shoes. :)

Santa Babies 2011 5x7

We had a good Christmas. We held on to some existing traditions and hopefully have created some new traditions. The girls made a haul. They now have so many clothes I have no idea what I’m going to do with all of them! I’ve really got the urge to do some major purging around here and that will be what I work on when the girls allow me to.

Since I was shopping until the very last minute for the finishing touches on the girls’ outfits, you better believe I took some pictures!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get two babies to sit up look at the camera and smile at the same time?! haha!

Cute little presents under the tree. :)
My mom made their bows. By the time she finished them, we decided to call them hats, LOL.

Today we are just being lazy. It’s gloomy outside so any motivation that I might have had is no where to be found. Also, the girls are so worn out from the weekend so they are a tad fussy today. I knew they’d be like this after such a busy weekend so I was prepared. I’ve been cleaning a bit when they are cat napping and when they are awake we just play with their new toys & snuggle.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!

Tis the Season to be Jolly

That’s a nice thought, isn’t it? It’s too bad that it’s rarely the case. It seems more and more that people are pretty grumpy during the Christmas season.Traffic getting to the shopping malls is horrendous. People drive like maniacs and cut off other drivers just to get a good parking space. And then there are the people that trample over other people just to get that great deal on that one item that will be obsolete by next Christmas. These people don’t seem so jolly to me.

We all tend to get caught up in the commercial aspect of Christmas that we forget about the true meaning. The birth of our Lord and Savior. O Holy Night is probably my most favorite Christmas song (yes, even more than my other favorite song, ‘I want a hippopotamus for Christmas’ haha!). I leave you with the full lyrics of the song because what you typically hear on the radio is only part of the song. As you celebrate with your families this weekend, take a moment to meditate on the words of this song and remember the true reason for the season.

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

God bless and Merry Christmas!!

Losing It!

Yes, I’m losing my mind but what I’m talking about is weight. I gained about 45 pounds with my pregnancy. When I left the hospital, I had lost almost exactly the total weight of both girls. In the first month after they were born, I lost about 40 pounds (I think most of it was water weight…I was sooooo swollen!). I still need to lose the last 5 but I would really like to lose about 15 (I’m tired of wearing Spanx to suck in my flabby baby belly).

For the last 2 weeks, I have been telling James that I’m going to start walking/running on the treadmill but there are boxes in front of it so I’ve been using that as an excuse. I hate making New Year’s resolutions and I don’t remember a year that I have done so but I think next year, getting down to my ideal weight is my goal. This is a very important goal because I want to be in good shape for my next (God willing) pregnancy.

Ok, I can’t believe I’m doing this but I need some accountability so I’m going to share a couple of very embarrassing photos.

Now, I know this was just 5 days after the girls were born and I was still very swollen but Oh. My. Gosh! When I was looking back at these pictures the other day (and I still can’t believe I’m sharing it now), I almost died. That rocking chair was pretty wide and I filled the whole thing! Seeing this picture (although I’m no where near that big now) was definitely motivation.

07 12 11_1237

Still can’t believe I’m sharing these… Ok, this is pretty much what I look like now…except I’m wearing yoga pants that are a little bit very tight so they suck in my gut & hips a little bit. I’ve never had a flat stomach but it’s never really bothered me until now. Before it was my hips that drove me crazy….and they still do.

10 31 11_2100
Oh look! A little muffin top. Nice. Can we say pear shape? Ugh.

Ok, now that I’ve humiliated myself, I’m here to tell you that I am getting my big enormous booty on that treadmill!. I’m horrible at dieting. I am a pretty picky eater and I don’t really like a lot of healthy foods so I’m just going to have to work by booty off….literally. This isn’t going to happen until after Christmas so I need you, my readers, to remind me after the holidays that it’s time to get my rear in gear…pun intended. ;)

Yours truly (covering my face in shame)

Random Wednesday

I have so much randomness going through my head on a daily basis that it makes it hard for me to get it all out in my weekly post but here it goes…

It seems like it’s been cloudy/gloomy/rainy around here a lot lately. I could really use some sunshine.

Our tree is up but it’s bare underneath. I need to get started on wrapping presents!

We’re going to my grandparents on Saturday for a Christmas get together. Most of my family hasn’t seen the girls in quite a while it seems. I think they’ll be surprised at how much they’ve grown.

I need to start making a list of all the things I need to pack for the trip mentioned above. It will be our first all day trip with the girls (it’s a 3 hour drive to their house).

I’ve rescued several paci’s out from under Tensley’s bed. We had to remove the bumper because she was getting too mobile at night so paci’s “fall through the cracks”. Haha!

Washing bottles has become my least favorite thing to do.Seems like I’m washing them at least 2-3 times each day. I’m seriously thinking about buying more so I can wash less often.

Christmas is in 10 days, can you believe it?! Are you ready?

The girls keep switching personalities on me…like trading each other. It’s driving me crazy!

I wish we could afford to have someone come in once a week to dust, sweep, mop & change sheets. Seems like it takes everything I have just to keep the house picked up much less do that kind of stuff.

I’ve been taking more pictures with my fancy camera lately. I usually just take pics with my iPhone…it’s just more convenient. It feels good to get back to “photography”.

My MIL is doing good. Now that she’s stable and on the road to recovery, James is home more and we are glad to see his handsome face around here. :)

I can’t believe it’s Wednesday! Where has my week gone? I have so much I need to get done before the end of the week. Gah!

Ok, enough randomness. I could go on and on but then I wouldn’t have anything for next week. :) How’s your week been so far? Good I hope!

Family Photos

This past weekend, while we had the girls dressed, James decided we should try to get some family pics in front of the tree.

It went pretty well when one of us was behind the camera. I think I need to teach hubs a thing or two about composition….and zoom. Haha!

A Good Weekend

Hello friends! Can you tell that I’m in a good mood? :)

We had a pretty good weekend. Friday, Tillie had a PT appointment so after her appointment, I did some Target shopping and then met James at the hospital to see his mom. We were going to decorate that evening but we were too tired. I got a pretty good night’s sleep because James got up with the girls (bonus points).

Saturday, James spent some time with his brother so it was just me and the girls. When he got home that evening, we got the girls in bed and started to decorate. I didn’t put up ALL of my decorations but we did enough to make it feel like Christmas around here (which I so desperately needed).

Aren’t those stockings the cutest?! I love whimsical things so when I saw these at Target, I knew they were the ones for our little family.

Yesterday (Sunday) was a great day. James was home and we got to spend the entire day with him. It felt good…like we had some normalcy around here again. We started the day at church where the girls stayed in the nursery for the first time and they did great! Mommy did ok too but Daddy, well, he didn’t do so well. It about killed him, I think. LOL After church, we had lunch with my sis and her family then we headed up to the hospital to decorate James’s mom’s room. After that we headed home where the girls got to see the tree lit up for the first time. I thought the lights might wow them but they didn’t seem to interested. I think they were just tired. I did, however, have the camera ready just in case they showed excitement so I did get a few (not so great) snapshots of them in one of their Christmas outfits.

Little Miss Tensley. Hey, wait a minute! Girlfriend is missing a couple of bows…little twerp. Haha!

So that’s our weekend in a nutshell. We’re hoping this week is a little more normal too. How was your weekend?

A Typical Day

Lately I’ve been feeling like I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Our schedule is a little off since Thanksgiving. Here’s a typical day:

7am – 9am Tillie typically wakes up first. I get up change her diaper and give her medicine and a bottle. By the time she’s done eating, Tensley wakes up and I do the same with her.

9am-11am I put the girls in their bouncers where they usually take their morning nap. During this time I head to the kitchen to get it cleaned up, wash/prepare bottles, and try to eat a little breakfast & have some coffee.

11-12pm Play with the girls, change diapers, feed girls.

12pm The witching hour seems to have started way early these days. I try to get other chores done the rest of the afternoon but I spend most of it tending to fussy babies (they are at least considerate enough to take turns being fussy…most of the time). It’s getting to where I can’t get out of their line of sight. Sometimes, if I’m going to be in a certain room for an extended period of time, I just move them to where I’m going to be but it doesn’t always work so I usually end up just holding one or both of them to keep them happy therefore, putting off chores.

Somewhere between 4-5pm I attempt to start dinner. (Did you notice the witching hour seems to be lasing about 5 hours?) This is easier with James home but with him going to the hospital he doesn’t get home until after 5pm these days which means that dinner and bath time coincide. Do you see where this is going?

5-9pm Dinner, bath time and bed time are all happening. By the time we get both girls down, it’s usually around 9pm. After that, both of us usually crash in our favorite spots in the living room, watch a dvr’d show or two and then stumble down the hall and collapse into bed.

Wow, it even makes me tired typing all that out. We had a good schedule going about a month ago and I’m really hoping we can get back on it but I’m guessing it won’t be until after the holidays.

5 Months!

Well, I started this post on their 5 month birthday (yesterday) but didn’t get it done until shortly after midnight so I’m a day late (but is anyone keeping track?)

Ok…so I just uploaded over 200 pictures taken of TnT over the last month so this is going to be like a picture book update. :D

11 23 11_1598

11 24 11_158111 24 11_1582
                          Tillie                                                         Tensley

At their 4 month Well Child, Tensley weighed 12lbs 12oz and Tillie weighed 13lbs 7oz (they’ve both more than doubled their birth weights like they’re suppose by 4 months, Yay!). They were both basically 23 3/4” long. Tillie is now wearing some 3-6 months but is starting to fit in 6-9 months. Tensley is wearing 3-6 months but a lot of it is still a little big…she’s a tiny little thing.

They’ve both decided that they like baby food after all and both fuss when their food is all gone….until I give them a bottle, then they forget all about the food, lol.

Tensley has perfected rolling over both ways and seems to be wanting to crawl (Lord help me!) Tillie, on the other hand, can roll over both ways but she prefers someone to do it for her. :)

Everything has started going to their mouths. You don’t even want to know the nastiness those little blankies pictured below.

Both girls are ticklish and have started to giggle when being tickled or if you make funny noises. I’ve even caught them laughing at Elmo when he’s on TV.

They have become more attached to their blankies, hippo & monkey.

11 08 11_148811 08 11_1490

Tillie is still going to PT. She’s made a lot of progress but now we are fighting against habit…she’s so use to doing things a certain way…the wrong way.

11 09 11_1711

They still like to go shopping….most of the time.

11 10 11_169511 10 11_1697

They are getting more and more curious about each other.

11 12 11_168711 17 11_1643

One is always touching the other (whenever they can…usually it’s Tensley touching Tillie…I can just imagine the fights now).

11 15 11_165111 18 11_1621
11 19 11_161511 29 11_1551

Some days we are silly…..and some days we are a little more serious…

11 28 11_155911 29 11_1555

And now for a montage of TnT (sorry for some of the crappy iPhone pics).

12 06 11_151212 03 11_153111 23 11_1600

As you can see, we have a lot of fun (and some meltdowns but who wants to see pictures of those??) They are changing every day and I am so thankful that I get to be home with them to witness those changes (no matter how much you might hear me complain about how exhausted I am or lack of time for myself…blah, blah, blah).

Before my rambling goes on and on and never stops. I’m going to stop here. I hope you enjoyed the update!
